Introduction

The Higher Nitec in Cyber and Network Security program is designed to equip students with a solid foundation in the field of cybersecurity and network administration.

The curriculum is structured with core modules and specialized subjects, providing a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of information technology security.

Graduated with GPA 4.0 with merit.

Learning Objectives

  1. Networking Fundamentals: Proficient in setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting wired and wireless network systems. Able to provide network support and configure devices such as switches and wireless access points.

  2. System Software Essentials: Perform the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of operating systems (OS) and application software on end-user computing devices.

  3. Computer Maintenance: Installation and configuration of hardware components and peripherals of end user computing devices. Maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware problems.

  4. Networking Technology: Apply the fundamentals of computer networking in relation to the OSI model. Able to configure and set up wired and wireless local area network including network segmentation. Including network documentation and monitor network performance.

  5. Enterprise Networking: Configure and set up a switched and routed network with Virtual LANs (VLANs) as well as set up wide area network (WAN), implement access control lists, and troubleshoot common network issues.

  6. System Administration: Set up server operating systems and perform system administration tasks such as user management, resouce management and performance monitoring. Including configuring file server services and basic system security.

  7. System Hardening & Infrastructure Services: Able to perform server security hardening and manage infrastructure services. Able to automate server administration and implement high-availability systems.

  8. Virtualisation Fundamentals: Set up virtualisation server and environment. Able to perform backup, recovery of VMs for fault tolerance and basic troubleshooting with hypervisors and VMs. VMware Solutions

  9. Infrastructure Security: Configure firewalls appliances, intrusion detection and prevention systems, firewall policies and set up Virtual Private Networks. Including technologies to protect against security attacks and set up end-point security measures. (Fortinet).

  10. IT Security: Perform network intrusion detection, prevention and mitigation through the implementation of IDS. Able to implement a secure network using Public Key Infrastructure technologies, set up secure wireless networks and perform privilege identity management support functions.

  11. Security Operations: Monitoring and identifying security risks, analyzing and classifying security risks through security monitoring systems, and applying appropriate countermeasures to mitigate identified threats.

  12. Security Vulnerability Testing: Perform System and network scanning, vulnerability assessment, documentation of identified vulnerabilities, basic penetration testing, and preparing appropriate test documentation.
